DISPATCH 2026.08 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

OpTic take the last Black Ops 7 crown, and Search decided the swings.

OpTic Gaming closed out the Black Ops 7 competitive era in Paris, beating Team Heretics 5-3 in a best-of-nine grand final at the Esports World Cup. The Call of Duty League's own account named OpTic champions and listed the winning roster. Search and Destroy sat in the middle of every swing in that series.

The Black Ops 7 competitive season is over, and OpTic Gaming ended it holding the trophy. In Paris on August 9, OpTic beat Team Heretics 5-3 in the best-of-nine grand final of the Black Ops 7 tournament at the Esports World Cup 2026. That is the 600,000 dollar top prize, 1,000 Club Championship points, a place at next year's event, and a second straight Esports World Cup title for a roster that lost the Call of Duty League Championship three weeks earlier.

Confidence

Confirmed. The Call of Duty League's own account named OpTic the Esports World Cup champions and listed the winning roster, and Insider Gaming reported the 5-3 grand final scoreline and the map by map swings. Dot Esports backs the format, the prize split, and the map pool, but its final standings table was still unfilled when we read it, so every placement below the champion is not yet settled by a source we actually read.

How the grand final actually went

  • OpTic started fast. They banked the first two maps before Team Heretics found any footing in the series.
  • Heretics answered on Search. Insider Gaming reports Heretics took the first Search and the second Hardpoint back, and that both were close.
  • OpTic reached match point. The next two maps swung back to OpTic and put Heretics one loss from the end.
  • A 1v3 bought one more map. ReeaL closed out a Search on a 1v3 clutch to extend the series rather than let it end there.
  • Hardpoint finished it. OpTic took the final Hardpoint without much trouble, and the series ended 5-3.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

Be clear about what this is: core Search on a pro map pool, in Black Ops 7, not Hardcore and not MW4. It still matters, because it is the cleanest available look at how the mode gets played once a title is fully solved. Everyone knows the timings, everyone knows the setups, and nobody gets a free round off information anymore. Your lobbies do not reach that state until a game has been out for months, and MW4 is about to drag everybody back to round one.

  • Search was the swing mode. Across a best-of-nine both teams traded Search maps, and the series never settled until the last Hardpoint. Round management decided it, not raw gunskill.
  • The last player alive is a plan. A grand final got extended off one 1v3. In one-life rounds, treating a bad trade as lost is the mistake. Play the clock and the bomb, not the odds.
  • Solved metas reward structure. When the reads are shared, the edge moves to timings, utility, and role discipline. Those are the habits worth carrying into a new title, because they survive a meta reset and your loadout does not.
A game is at its most competitive right before it gets replaced.

What this settles about the Search pool

Earlier in this story we flagged that reports and the tournament organizer did not line up on how much Search the Black Ops 7 Esports World Cup pool actually carried. Dot Esports' tournament page lists six Search and Destroy maps in the event pool: Den, Gridlock, Raid, Fringe, Sake, and Hacienda. That is six Search maps against six Hardpoints and three Overload maps, so Search carried an equal share of the largest pool at the event, and the grand final ran exactly like a bracket built that way.

Next checkpoint

Black Ops 7 is finished as a competitive title. The next thing worth practicing on is Modern Warfare 4, and the open beta lands right after Call of Duty NEXT on August 21. Use it as a test lab, not a highlight reel.
