DISPATCH 2026.07 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

The MW4 beta has dates. Search and Destroy is on the menu.

Activision has locked the Modern Warfare 4 beta. Pre-order early access runs August 21 to 25, the all-platform open weekend runs August 28 to September 1, and the official blog names Search and Destroy as a playable mode. Call of Duty NEXT kicks it off on August 21.

Activision has put real dates on the Modern Warfare 4 beta. After the Fanatics Fest hands-on and a run of previews, the official blog now lays out the full schedule: a pre-order early access weekend, a public open weekend, and a Call of Duty NEXT broadcast to kick it all off. For once the headline is not the hype reel. It is that Search and Destroy is on the beta playlist.

Confidence

Confirmed. The dates, platforms, the August 21 Call of Duty NEXT event, and the Search and Destroy callout come straight from Activision's official Modern Warfare 4 blog post, and PC Gamer reports the same schedule and mode list independently. This is the schedule, not a rumor. A Hardcore playlist and Ranked Play were not named for the beta, so treat those parts as open.

The schedule

Two weekends, split the usual way. Early access is for players who pre-order, and the open weekend drops the gate for everyone.

  • Early access (Weekend One) August 21 to 25 on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. No Switch 2 this weekend. It starts the same day as the Call of Duty NEXT broadcast, so pre-order players drop in immediately instead of watching a stream first.
  • Open beta (Weekend Two) August 28 to September 1 on all platforms, including Switch 2, with no pre-order required.
  • Call of Duty NEXT August 21. Live gameplay and a full multiplayer content briefing ahead of the beta.
  • Content Up to 19 weapons to unlock, modes from 3v3 up to large tank battles, Search and Destroy, the new Kill Block map, and a Training Mobility Course.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

A beta with Search and Destroy on the playlist is the one thing a competitive one-life player actually needs. This is a free, public test lab for the mode you live in, two full months before launch. Everything you argue about in scrims, TTK, movement, footstep audio, visibility, and plant and defuse timings, is testable in the exact mode instead of guessed at from a trailer.

  • Real mode, real reps Search and Destroy is named, so you can run the actual game type and feel how MW4 plays a one-life round, not just deathmatch on a preview build.
  • Test the gunplay before it locks Nineteen weapons and a live sandbox mean you can pressure-test TTK and recoil while feedback still matters. Infinity Ward has already said it is watching visual recoil and muzzle flash during the beta.
  • Audio and movement under fire Geometry-baked audio and the grounded movement system only prove out in a real round. The beta is where you learn whether footsteps and slides read the way you need them to in SnD.
  • Kill Block is in the pool The modular map that reshuffles between rounds is playable here. If it ever touches competitive rotations, this is your first look at how it plays a bomb round.

What is not confirmed yet

The blog names Search and Destroy but does not spell out a Hardcore playlist for the beta, and it does not mention Ranked Play. Core Search and Destroy being in the beta does not guarantee a Hardcore variant will be, and Ranked almost certainly is not part of this window. Treat Hardcore SnD in the beta as unconfirmed until the Call of Duty NEXT briefing or the live playlist shows it.

What would verify it

The Call of Duty NEXT multiplayer briefing on August 21 is the checkpoint. A published beta playlist that lists Hardcore Search and Destroy, or the mode simply appearing in the client once servers go live, settles it. Until then, plan your test session around Core SnD and adjust when the playlist is public.

The beta has dates and Search and Destroy is on the list. That is your test lab. Book the weekend.
