The Modern Warfare 4 beta closed on September 1 and the servers went dark. Launch is October 23. Into that gap, the official Call of Duty account posted on September 18 that the run-up to the global launch carries new community hands-on opportunities, and that players can be among the first to play MW4 across 12 global activations. That is the announcement in full.
Confirmed, but only for what the post says. This is the official Call of Duty account putting a number on its pre-launch hands-on program: 12 activations, MW4 playable at them. The post attaches an image that we are not treating as a source, and no official blog post backs it yet, so treat the count as locked and treat where, when, and which modes as open questions.
What the post actually says
It is two lines long. The first frames the stretch before launch as a run of new chances for the community to play. The second puts a number on it: 12 global activations. The count is the only hard detail in it. The post attaches an image, which we are not treating as a source, and as of this writing there is no matching post on the official Modern Warfare 4 blog index and no fresh update to the Forward Operating Blog hub, which still reads last updated September 9.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
The beta is over. Until October 23, nobody outside these events is putting hands on MW4, which makes a floor build the last place to learn how the game actually plays before it counts. The catch is that a floor build is a marketing build. The public MW4 builds so far, Kill Block at Fanatics Fest and at the Esports World Cup in Paris and Core 6v6 at the gamescom booth, were all announced without Search and Destroy on them.
- One-life pacing Core 6v6 and Gunfight teach you gunfights. They do not teach you the round clock, the bomb plant read, or how one dead teammate reshapes a site. If Search and Destroy is not on the floor, the hands-on is a weapon demo.
- Hardcore is the real question The official MW4 launch map pool ships Hardcore variants, but no public build has put a Hardcore playlist in front of players yet. An activation that includes one would be the first honest look at the damage numbers.
- Audio and visibility Footstep audio, bomb-placement audio distance, and muzzle flash all moved during the beta. A venue with wired setups and real headsets is a better read on those than a couch was.
- Prep timing Campaign Early Access lands October 16 and full launch October 23. Anything learned at an activation in the next five weeks is the only pre-launch intel a roster gets to build a map and loadout plan on.
What is not confirmed
- Where No cities, countries, venues, or partner events were named.
- When No dates were given, and no window beyond the run-up to launch.
- What is playable No modes, maps, or playlists were named. Nothing in the post says Search and Destroy or a Hardcore variant is in the build.
- How you get in No entry process, ticketing, signup, or eligibility detail was published.
What would verify it
A callofduty.com blog post or a Forward Operating Blog update listing the 12 activations with cities, dates, and a mode list. That is the document that turns a number into a plan. An official Xbox Wire or PlayStation Blog post tied to a specific event would do the same for that one stop. Until one of those lands, the count is the only thing worth repeating.
Twelve is official. Everything else is still a poster.
