DISPATCH 2026.10 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

The gunfight you tested in Beta Weekend 2 is the one that ships

Infinity Ward published the Modern Warfare 4 launch patch notes on October 21, two days before release. The headline for a one-life team: the slower Weekend 2 time-to-kill stays, every weapon got a balance pass on top of it, flashes and concussions were cut back, and Tactical Sprint is still a perk you pay a slot for.

Infinity Ward published the Modern Warfare 4 launch patch notes on October 21, framed as everything that changed since the Multiplayer Beta. Most of it is housekeeping. Four parts of it change how a round plays, and all four were live questions coming out of the beta weekends.

Confidence

Confirmed. This is Infinity Ward's own pre-launch patch notes on callofduty.com, published October 21 and read end to end for this page. One honest caveat: the notes are written for Core multiplayer and never mention Hardcore, so how a longer time-to-kill and a flinch-heavy balance pass behave under reduced health is our read, not theirs.

The four changes that matter

  • Weekend 2 time-to-kill stays Infinity Ward says the slower Weekend 2 tuning was strongly preferred at all skill levels and is shipping. It also admits the weapon to weapon balance was not right at the time, so a full rebalance sits on top of the same pace.
  • SMGs up, one shot kills tempered SMGs are described as more efficient at close to mid range, and powerful one hit kill weapons are tempered with flinch and damage tuning. Attachments got their own pass, and Advanced Weapon Stats are in the menu at launch.
  • Flashes cut back Flash and Concussion effective range and duration are both slightly reduced. In a mode where one grenade can open a site, a shorter blind is a direct nerf to the entry.
  • UAVs are harder to kill UAV health goes from 100 back up to 150 after beta feedback that they fell too fast. The cost is unchanged at 5 kills, or 4 with Hardline.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

These four numbers are the ones a one-life team actually negotiates with. A longer time-to-kill means a bad first shot is survivable and trades get slower, which rewards the team holding an angle over the team walking into it. A shorter flash means the standard site take has less cover, so entries need a second utility piece or a different approach. A tougher UAV means information lives longer, which punishes a slow rotate harder than it did in the beta.

Hardcore complicates all of it in the same direction. Reduced health already compresses time-to-kill, so a balance pass tuned around Core breathing room lands differently when two bullets end a round. Flinch tuning on one hit kill weapons matters less when most weapons are effectively one hit kill weapons. Treat the launch numbers as a Core document and expect the Hardcore read to be its own job in the first week.

Movement, perks, and the quieter fixes

  • Tactical Sprint still costs a slot It is not on by default. It lives on Blood Rush in the second perk category, the extra sprint out penalty was removed to pay for the slot, and the default input is now a single tap.
  • Snaking got patched Infinity Ward says it found and fixed several bugs where the enemy's third person animation did not match their first person action, which it names as allowing snaking opportunities.
  • Battle Hardened is stronger It now negates most of the effect of Flash, Concussion and the Screamer Mine, which pairs with the tactical nerf above to push utility further down the priority list.
  • Spawns kept moving Further work on player separation, squad spawning and Hardpoint spawn predictability, described as reorienting around consistent flow.
  • Less dead time Pre-game countdown timers were reduced or removed and maps start pre-loading earlier, which shortens the gap between rounds of a scrim block.
The pace is settled. The weapon you pick is supposed to be a choice now, not a requirement.
One thing the notes do not cover

Ranked Play. The launch patch notes name no Ranked date, ruleset or mode set, and neither does the launch maps and modes blog published the same day. Competitive structure on October 23 is whatever your group builds.
