DISPATCH 2026.10 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

The first tuning pass goes straight at inconsistent TTK.

Infinity Ward's October 28 Modern Warfare 4 update carries the game's first broad weapon tuning pass, and the stated goal is a more consistent time to kill. Assault rifles lose their neck and upper torso damage bonuses, SMG arm and hand hits stop costing you damage, and the Quick Fix Perk no longer heals through incoming fire.

Infinity Ward said at launch it was already looking at weapon tuning for the following week, and on October 28 it shipped. The October 28 Modern Warfare 4 update is the first broad weapon tuning pass, and the studio states the focus plainly: normalizing hit location damage for a more consistent time to kill, plus general improvements to SMG performance. For a mode where every round is one life, that first half matters more than the second.

Confidence

Confirmed. Every number here is read directly from the October 28, 2026 section of Infinity Ward's official Modern Warfare 4 patch notes, and the studio's own account posted the same day that the update carries its first weapon tuning adjustments plus fixes for Challenges, Killstreaks, and the Quick Fix Perk. This is a shipped update, not a plan: if you loaded the game after October 28, you are already playing on these values.

What the pass actually changes

The headline pattern is assault rifles losing their upper body bonuses while gaining range, and SMGs stopping the damage penalty on limb hits. Read together, the two moves pull the weapon classes closer to doing what their class name says.

  • AR upper body bonuses flattened The Han 86 drops neck and upper torso multipliers from 1.1 to 1.0 while its max damage range rises from 1120 to 1200. The Oden drops neck and upper torso from 1.2 to 1.1 and lower torso from 1.1 to 1.0.
  • AR range up The Kastov 762 gains max damage range from 950 to 1050, an 11% bump, and the M4 moves from 990 to 1020.
  • SMG limb hits no longer punished Across the ISO Nightshade, PPSh-41, VEL 46, Wz.55 Striga, and X-58 Nyx, arm and hand damage multipliers rise from 0.95 to 1.0. The X-58 Nyx head multiplier also rises from 1.25 to 1.3.
  • PPSh-41 handling ADS in speed improves from 300ms to 280ms, with small bumps to strafe, crouch, and sprint speed.
  • Apex attachments reined in The Oden Sentinel loses max damage range from 870 to 820. The Hyeon Burst Hyperburst drops full-auto max damage from 37 to 34, though its max damage range jumps from 970 to 1220.
  • LMGs and slugs lose reach The APOC-338 loses mid and minimum damage, the FiNN LMG loses mid damage range and its upper arm bonus, and the Warlord 12G Slug Rounds drop mid damage range 2 from 900 to 810.
  • Quick Fix stops healing through fire Infinity Ward says Quick Fix was regenerating health even after the player took damage, making people more tanky than intended. Damage now interrupts it.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

Hardcore strips health down and takes the HUD away, so the only thing left deciding a duel is whether your bullets do what you expect. Inconsistent hit location multipliers are the worst possible version of that problem: the same burst at the same range kills or does not kill depending on how the enemy happened to be holding their gun. Flattening those multipliers is the kind of change that does not look dramatic in a patch note and completely changes how a site hold feels.

  • Limb hits stop stealing rounds An SMG spray that clips an arm on the way to the chest used to lose damage for it. At 1.0 across the arms and hands, the messy close duels on a plant go to whoever shot first.
  • AR holds get flatter, not weaker Losing the neck and upper torso bonus takes away the fast punish on a sloppy peek, but the added max damage range means long lanes stay an AR's job. Expect fewer surprise kills and more predictable trades.
  • Quick Fix was a bomb site problem A defender healing through chip damage while sitting on the bomb is exactly the fight Hardcore cannot afford to get wrong. That is fixed now.
  • Rebuild your ruleset reads If your team settled on an Oden or a Hyperburst build during launch week, the numbers underneath it moved. Re-test in a private match before you trust it in a scrim.
Consistent beats strong. A gun you can predict is worth more than a gun that sometimes wins.

What to watch before Season 1

This is a first pass, and Infinity Ward has called it that. Season 1 lands November 6 with new maps, new modes, and two new weapons in the Battle Pass, so another tuning round is likely to ride along with it. The open question for competitive play is still Ranked Play, which has no date: until it exists, these numbers are being tuned against public lobbies rather than against the way a ruleset actually gets played.
