DISPATCH 2026.09 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

Collateral puts a buy round inside Search and Destroy.

Call of Duty has announced Collateral, a new Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer mode aimed squarely at Search and Destroy players. Every round starts you with a pistol and a bank balance: kills and objective work earn cash, and between rounds you spend it on armor, perks, equipment, and guns. No respawns, no killstreaks, no automatic health regeneration, no custom loadouts.

ConfirmedMW4CollateralSearch and Destroymodes

Call of Duty announced Collateral on September 29 in an official blog post, under a heading that calls out the Search and Destroy crowd by name. Collateral is a new Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer mode where teams alternate between attacking and defending two bomb sites, every player spawns with a pistol, and cash earned from kills and objective play buys your kit between rounds. Die and you lose your loadout. The money you banked stays yours.

Confidence

Confirmed. Call of Duty described Collateral and its rule set directly in an official blog post on September 29. What is official is the design: pistol starts, a cash economy, two bomb sites, one life. What is not yet official is the schedule or any of the numbers, because the same post says more detail is coming closer to launch.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

Every rule Call of Duty listed pushes in one direction: one life, no killstreaks, no automatic health regeneration, no custom loadouts. That is the Hardcore Search and Destroy value system written into a ruleset, with a buy phase bolted on top. If you have run buy rounds in another tactical shooter you already know the shape of this. What nobody knows yet is how Infinity Ward tuned it.

  • Save rounds become real Cash carries between rounds and loadouts are lost on death, so throwing bodies at a site costs your team money as well as the round. Deciding when to save is now a call somebody has to make out loud.
  • Pistol rounds carry weight Everyone opens with a pistol, so the first round is a skill check with no gear advantage. Winning it compounds, the way it does in any economy mode.
  • Utility has a price Flashes, smokes, Molotovs, frags, Stims, and a Riot Shield come out of the same wallet as your rifle. A team that wants to flash every execute has to give something up elsewhere.
  • Ghost is a purchase, not a pick Armor Vest, Battle Hardened, Lethal Reach, Fast Hands, and Ghost are listed as buys. Perks you normally lock in before a match become a per-round decision.
  • Info is funded, not earned The UAV is a team buy rather than a streak reward. Expect real arguments about who pays for it and when.
  • Prep changes shape Scrim blocks that used to be site executes and retakes now need buy discipline and round-by-round economy calls too.

What you can buy

  • Armor and perks Armor Vest, Battle Hardened, Lethal Reach, Fast Hands, Ghost.
  • Equipment Flash Grenade, Molotov Cocktail, Frag Grenade, Stim, Smoke Wall, Riot Shield.
  • Pistols Silenced Pistol, Revolver, Akimbo Pistols, Power Pistol.
  • Standard issue Shotgun, Light Machine Gun, Marksman Rifle, Silenced SMG, Agile SMG.
  • Tier 1 Semi Auto Rifle, High Damage Rifle, Burst Rifle, Silenced Rifle, Sniper Rifle.
  • Team buy UAV.
One life, no killstreaks, no regen, no custom class. That is our value system with a wallet attached.

What is not confirmed

Call of Duty says to look for further detail on this mode closer to launch, and that sentence is carrying a lot. The post does not say whether Collateral is playable on October 23 or arrives later in a season. It does not say whether Collateral appears in Ranked Play, whether a Hardcore variant exists, or which maps it runs on. It gives no numbers at all: no cash per kill, no prices, no round count, no bomb timer, no win condition. Every weapon is listed as a category rather than a gun, so nobody can tell you yet what a Tier 1 Silenced Rifle actually is.

What would verify it

A launch multiplayer blog or day one patch notes naming Collateral in the mode list would settle availability. A Ranked Play or Hardcore playlist breakdown would settle whether this is a competitive lane or a casual one. The promised follow up post should carry the economy numbers, and once those are public the mode can be prepped properly. Until then, treat Collateral as a confirmed design with an unconfirmed schedule, and do not plan a season around it.

Learn the buy before everyone else does

Collateral rewards teams that already know when to save, when to force, and who makes the call. Build that habit in pubs now, then take it somewhere the result gets recorded.
