The Weekend Two beta update got read almost entirely as a movement patch. Tactical Sprint moved to a perk, slides got shorter, stamina got smaller. Underneath that there is a second pass almost nobody is talking about, and for bomb rounds it may matter more: Infinity Ward reworked the Killstreak economy.
Confirmed. Every number here is quoted from Infinity Ward's official Modern Warfare 4 beta patch notes for August 28 on callofduty.com, read this run. Treat them as beta values, not launch values: in the same update the studio says its aim assist tuning is not the exact tuning it wants for launch, so this economy is still being dialed in.
What the Killstreak pass changed
- Every streak costs one more kill. The notes put it in a single line: all Killstreak costs go up by 1 kill. The official beta kit lists 17 Killstreaks, and the change applies across the board rather than to a problem streak.
- UAV health down 60 percent. The UAV now takes 60 percent less damage to destroy, which turns a streak that used to shrug off a casual burst into something one player can deny on their own.
- UAV height down 12 percent. It flies lower, which drops it into range of more guns and more sight lines from inside the map rather than only from open ground.
- Artillery Beacon cut down. Missiles drop from 6 to 5, the inner damage radius goes from 15.24 meters to 10.16 meters, the outer radius from 25.4 meters to 17.78 meters, and the shockwave radius that knocks players down comes down to 10.16 meters.
- Attack Helicopter health down 45 percent. That one landed earlier in the beta, in the August 23 entry, and it points in the same direction as everything in the Weekend Two update.
Read together the direction is consistent. Streaks are harder to earn and easier to remove, and the biggest area denial tool in the beta now covers a much smaller piece of ground.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
Search and Destroy is the mode where Killstreak math works differently from everywhere else. You get one life, kills carry across the round, and most rounds end long before anyone banks a high streak. That makes the low streaks the entire economy, and it makes the UAV the one that decides rounds.
- The UAV is an information weapon, not a kill weapon. In a one life mode, knowing where three defenders are sitting is worth more than any airstrike. Charging one more kill for it means fewer rounds where the attacking side buys that information at all.
- Your entry fragger pays the tax. The player who trades first blood on a push was usually the one who unlocked the UAV. One more kill means that player has to win two duels instead of one before the team sees anything.
- Shooting a UAV down is now a real play. With 60 percent less health and 12 percent less altitude, denying a UAV stops being a wasted magazine. On a site hold it can be worth more than the rotation you gave up to do it.
- The Artillery Beacon stops clearing sites by itself. One fewer missile and roughly a third off both damage radii means a beacon dropped on a planted bomb is much less likely to wipe a defuse stack without help.
Streaks got harder to earn and easier to erase. In a one life mode that is a nerf to information, not to firepower.
What to test in the four days you have
The Open Beta runs until September 1 at 10:00 AM PT and it is the last free window before launch on October 23. If you are running bomb rounds this weekend, test the economy directly. Count how many rounds actually produce a UAV now, and put one player on killing them instead of rotating. What you are really measuring is the direction Infinity Ward is pushing, because none of these numbers are locked.
Infinity Ward says in the same update that its aim assist tuning is not the exact tuning it wants for launch. Read the Killstreak numbers the same way: the direction is firm, the values are not.
