This story started as community reaction. Two days into the Early Access weekend the read across competitive Call of Duty was that Modern Warfare 4 was moving too fast, that chained slides and slide cancels were doing too much work in gunfights, and that Infinity Ward had promised a movement pass before the Open Beta. On August 28 the pass landed, and it is bigger than the promise implied.
Confirmed. Every number here is stated in Infinity Ward's official Modern Warfare 4 beta patch notes for August 28. Note what the studio flags itself: it calls the Tactical Sprint move an experiment for the beta, and it says in the same update that the aim assist tuning is not the exact tuning it wants for launch. Beta values are not launch values.
What changed
- Tactical Sprint is a perk now It is removed by default and moved to a perk called Blood Rush. Infinity Ward says this improves the pace of combat and gives the game a more classic feel.
- The perk version is tuned differently Tac Sprint sprint to fire time now matches base sprint, and Tac Sprint speed is down 4 percent.
- Sliding is worth less Slide distance down 10 percent, slide speed down 9 percent, and a longer delay before a slide can be turned into a jump.
- Stamina down 8 percent Less sprint budget per push, which compounds with the slide nerfs on long site walks.
- Time to kill goes up Every weapon in the beta was retuned. Infinity Ward says it wanted a slight time to kill increase without touching base health, so it did the work through weapon durability and range.
- Aim assist reduced Adjusted globally to lower its impact, applying to Warzone as well. Snipers also take 28 percent more flinch when hit.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
Putting Tactical Sprint behind a perk is a real cost, not a nerf on paper. In Search and Destroy the offense pays for map control in seconds, and the fastest route to a site was free before today. Now a player who wants that speed spends a perk slot on it, and every slot in a Search kit is already contested. Expect entry players to take Blood Rush and the rest of the six to run something else, which is a genuine role split rather than six identical loadouts.
The slide changes cut the other way and matter more in Hardcore. A slide that travels 10 percent less and moves 9 percent slower is a slide that clears less of an angle before the defender's crosshair catches up. In Hardcore, where the first accurate burst usually ends it, that shifts value back to held angles and pre aim. Combine it with 8 percent less stamina and the cheap aggressive entry gets meaningfully more expensive. The time to kill increase pulls slightly the other way, though in Hardcore the damage multiplier already compresses most of it, so the range breakpoint changes on individual guns will matter more to a Hardcore kit than the headline time to kill number does.
Speed used to be free. Now it costs a perk slot, and Search kits do not have a spare one.
What is not confirmed for launch
Infinity Ward called the Tactical Sprint move an experiment for the beta in the notes themselves, and said that if it sticks the studio still has to work out its place in the perk table and what other perk adjustments go with it. It was equally direct about aim assist: this is not the exact tuning it wants, and it will keep dialing it in before launch. So the direction is official and the values are real, but nothing here is a launch spec. Practice the shapes, not the numbers.
The notes say nothing about skill based matchmaking or disbanding lobbies, the two complaints that sat next to aim assist through Weekend 1. Silence is not a denial, and it is not a commitment either.
