DISPATCH 2026.08 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

Your FOV choice is back. Your PC settings might not be.

Infinity Ward's day two Open Beta update quietly returns one of the settings competitive players actually argue about. The choice between Independent and Affected field of view is restored, the minimap stops holding stale teammate dots, and lobby navigation stops skipping map voting. The catch sits in the PC section: the performance work may reset some in-game settings to default on first boot.

Day two of the Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta shipped a short bug fix list, and three entries on it are the kind a competitive player notices inside one round. Infinity Ward restored the choice between Independent and Affected field of view settings, fixed teammate dots that could stay stuck on the minimap, and fixed lobby player list navigation that could skip map voting and jump straight to Quick Nav. The same notes carry general PC performance improvements with a warning that some in-game settings may be affected and reset to default on first boot.

Confidence

Confirmed. Every item here is listed in Infinity Ward's official Modern Warfare 4 beta patch notes dated Saturday August 29 on callofduty.com. The PC line is the studio's own wording, that some in-game settings may be affected and reset to default on first boot, so it is a warning to check rather than a promise that yours were touched.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

None of this is a balance change, which is exactly why it is easy to scroll past. In a one-life mode the settings screen and the minimap are load-bearing equipment. Field of view behavior decides how large a head looks the moment you aim in, a phantom teammate dot is a bad rotation call, and a lobby that skips the vote takes away the only say you had in which site you are attacking.

  • FOV behavior Independent keeps your aimed field of view separate from your hip field of view. Affected scales it with your setting. Which one you run changes target size and recoil read at every range, and the choice is selectable again.
  • Minimap trust A teammate dot that persists after the player is gone is a false positive. In Search and Destroy that is a bad rotate, a bad plant, or a save you never should have called.
  • Map voting Navigating the lobby player list could push you past the vote entirely. Where a playlist offers a vote, that is competitive input you were losing by accident.
  • Check before you queue PC performance work may reset in-game settings to default on first boot. Sensitivity, field of view and audio profile are all worth a look before your first live round.

What else landed on day two

  • Attachment info Pros and cons now display for locked attachments, so a build can be planned before the parts are unlocked.
  • Audio A fix for Crossfire killstreak audio that could get stuck playing, on top of the earlier beta audio work.
  • Ground War Two new large maps, Wolves Stadium and Imjin Farmlands, plus the Ground War Combat Outpost playlist. Search and Destroy is untouched and still runs as its own queue.
A settings menu is competitive equipment. Check it before the first round, not after the first loss.
Still open

The known issues list still carries blank player names in the in-match scoreboard, loadout edits made just before loading into a match sometimes failing to save, and late-joining players able to move during the infil sequence. Infinity Ward points at its live issue tracker for the current state. The Open Beta runs to September 1.
