The Call of Duty League has been drip-feeding the Monster Energy Launch Invitational since October 12, when it announced the event with a name and three dates and nothing else. Two posts in the last two days filled in the shape of it: 16 teams, four groups, eight teams through to the next stage, and $100,000 in the pot. The dates have not moved, which means the first competitive Modern Warfare 4 weekend sits directly on top of the day Season 1 opens.
Reported. Both new facts come from the Call of Duty League's own posts of October 27 and October 28, which we read this run, plus the October 12 announcement for the dates. We are holding at reported rather than treating it as settled because the group contents and the prize split were published as graphics we cannot read as text, and because no Activision blog or patch note carries the event yet.
What the league has posted
- Group play 16 teams split across four groups, with only eight advancing. Half the field is gone before anyone reaches a bracket.
- Prize pool $100,000, broken out in a graphic posted on October 28. The split itself lives in that image, not in text.
- Dates November 6 to 8, 2026, unchanged from the October 12 announcement post.
- Still blank No mode rotation, no map pool, no veto procedure, no venue, and no team list in post text. The group contents went out as a graphic too.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
Pro events set defaults, and defaults travel fast. The map and mode rotation the first Modern Warfare 4 event runs becomes the ruleset third party ladders and scrim groups copy inside a week, because nobody wants to practice a pool the pros are not touching. Search and Destroy has been the spine of every competitive Call of Duty rotation for a decade, and MW4 shipped it on day one with Core and Hardcore variants, so the open question is not whether Search is in the rotation. It is which maps it runs on, and that answer is not out.
- The timing is the story Season 1 opens at 0000 ET on November 6, the first day of the event. Backstab, Canyon and a reimagined Shoot House land that same morning.
- A moving pool Whether the event runs the launch 12 or picks up the new maps changes what is worth drilling next week. Nobody has said which.
- Eight of sixteen A cut that deletes half the field rewards teams with a settled default on every map, not teams still experimenting on two of them.
- Watch for a veto order If the league publishes a map and mode veto order, that one document is worth more to your team than every highlight clip from the weekend.
Sixteen in, eight out, and nobody has said what they are playing on.
What is not confirmed
The league has not posted a mode rotation, a map pool, a veto procedure, a venue, or the format of the stage that follows group play. The group contents and the prize split both went out as graphics rather than text, so we are not naming teams or payouts here. No Activision blog and no patch note mentions the event at all, which is exactly why this sits at reported instead of settled.
What would verify it
A league bracket page or a rules post that lists the modes and the map pool in readable text would close the part that matters to a Search and Destroy team. An Activision or Call of Duty blog post covering the event would lift the whole story to confirmed. One of the two should land before November 6, because no team can prepare for a rotation nobody has published.
Season 1 adds three maps at midnight ET on November 6 and the event starts that day. If the Invitational pool is frozen to the launch 12, the pro rotation and the public map pool will disagree for the whole weekend.
