Modern Warfare 4 ships on October 23 and, for the first time, we have something resembling a calendar for what comes after. A pre-season roadmap went out on Wednesday afternoon. CharlieIntel posted it within the hour, Insider Gaming wrote it up shortly after, and the two readings agree: Shipment on October 27, Season 1 on November 6.
Reported. Two CoD-native outlets, CharlieIntel and Insider Gaming, independently give the same two dates off the same roadmap, and that is a strong signal. We did not read the graphic ourselves, and there is no official blog post or patch note stating either date in text yet, so treat November 6 as solid rather than locked. The Ranked Play point is weaker still: it rests on what the coverage does not say, backed by the competitive subreddit's read, not on anyone stating that Ranked is absent.
What the roadmap reportedly carries
- October 23. Full launch, multiplayer included, across every platform. That is the first Hardcore Search and Destroy round of this game.
- October 27. Shipment arrives, four days after launch. Our earlier page on the Shipment return said nobody had given it a date. Somebody has now.
- Around Halloween. Press reading the roadmap lists seasonal modes in the launch window. Neither of them is a Search variant.
- November 6. Season 1 begins, two weeks after launch and the same day the Call of Duty League's Monster Energy Launch Invitational opens.
- Not on it. Ranked Play. No date, and by two outlets' reading, no mention.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
A seasonal calendar is not usually news for a one-life Search player. This one is, because of what sits on November 6 and what does not sit anywhere. Season 1 is the first balance pass with real data behind it, the first point where weapons that look broken in week one either get touched or do not. Putting it on the same day the first MW4 pro tournament opens means the competitive scene's first public ruleset gets written on a build that is changing underneath it.
- Two weeks of unpatched meta. October 23 to November 6 is the window where whatever is strongest at launch stays strongest. Scrim prep in that stretch is prep against a build nobody has corrected yet.
- Shipment lands in the middle of it. Four days after launch, a 24/7 grind map pulls casual population out of the mode playlists. That is the population a Hardcore Search lobby is drawn from.
- The tournament and the patch collide. Pros settling maps, perks, and attachment bans on November 6 to 8 are doing it as a seasonal update goes live. Whatever they land on is what filters down into practice lobbies.
- No Ranked means no ladder. Ranked Play is where a Search ruleset normally gets enforced for everyone else. Without a date, the only structured one-life competition in the MW4 window is the one leagues and communities run themselves.
A dated season is a plan. An undated Ranked Play is a gap, and gaps are where leagues get built.
What is not confirmed
Everything above is press reading a graphic. Neither date has been stated in text on callofduty.com, in a patch note, or in an Activision support article, and we did not read the roadmap image ourselves this run. The Ranked Play line is the softest claim on this page: it is an argument from silence. Two outlets covering a roadmap without mentioning Ranked is not the same as a roadmap that says Ranked is not coming, and a seasonal graphic is a marketing asset, not a mode matrix. Ranked Play has launched inside a season before without appearing on the pre-season art.
What would verify it
An official Call of Duty blog post or the Season 1 patch notes naming November 6 in text locks the date. For Ranked Play, the thing to watch for is an official mode list or a Season 1 announcement that either dates it or leaves it out again, now that someone has asked the question in public. If an official post lands with a different Season 1 date, or puts Ranked on the calendar, this page gets corrected rather than quietly left alone.
