What arrived the day before is the part that frames all of it. Treyarch put out a Dev Talk on September 16 and, according to every outlet that covered it, used the end of that video to say goodbye to two years of Black Ops.

We did not watch the Dev Talk, so the quotes come from IGN, Kotaku, and GameSpot, which publish the same wording from the same September 16 video, and Kotaku adds that Treyarch called it the last Dev Talk dedicated to Black Ops 7. What none of them have is a statement that Black Ops 7 stops getting fixes when Season 06 ends. A goodbye video is a goodbye video, not a support schedule.
What Treyarch actually said
The quotes are short and they are being reported identically across three outlets, which is the best signal available when the primary source is a video rather than a post. Design director Kevin Drew called it a bittersweet goodbye, said the studio has learned a lot and tried a lot in its current era, and said the team is ready to make something new. Co-studio head Yale Miller closed the video by thanking players and pointing at Modern Warfare 4.
- It was the last one. Kotaku reports Treyarch said this Dev Talk is the final one dedicated to Black Ops 7.
- Two years, not one game. The goodbye covers Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 together, the back-to-back cycle Treyarch led.
- Nothing named next. Drew said the team is ready to make something new, and stopped there. No title, no date, no mode.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
This is a clock, not a headline. A studio that has moved on does not ship a map pool change or a weapon pass to fix what Season 06 got wrong, and the team you are scrimming with is about to lose the game it practices on. Every hour you put into Black Ops 7 Search and Destroy from here is an hour spent on a title with a known end date, and Modern Warfare 4 resets the weapons, the maps, and the movement on October 23.
- Rank now or not at all. Three weeks of Ranked Play is the last banner this game hands out. If it matters to you, the grind is this month.
- The meta is frozen. Treat the Season 06 weapon and map values as final. Build habits around what is live, because nothing is coming to change it.
- Bugs are yours to route around. Anything broken in Season 06 Search and Destroy is probably staying broken. Learn the workaround, do not wait for the patch.
- Practice transfers, settings do not. Aim, comms, and site discipline carry into Modern Warfare 4. Your class setups and map calls do not.
A goodbye video is not a support schedule, but it tells you where the studio's attention went.
What is not confirmed
Nobody has said Black Ops 7 stops receiving updates. Kotaku frames Season 06 as wrapping up support and IGN says outright that what the goodbye means is unclear, which is the honest read: a farewell in a Dev Talk is a signal about staffing and attention, not a published end-of-support date. What comes next from Treyarch is also unstated, and the quote about making something new came from the design director in a video that was otherwise about Season 06 content, so read it as a tease rather than a roadmap.
What would verify it
Two things would settle it. The first is the patch cadence itself: if Season 06 runs its four weeks with no balance pass after launch, support ended in practice whatever anyone said. The second is an official post, on callofduty.com or the Call of Duty Updates account, that names a final Black Ops 7 update or a date after which the title is in maintenance. Until one of those lands, plan around the three-week Ranked window and treat the rest as a signal.
