Season 06 opened on September 17 and Ranked Play did not stay open with it. Call of Duty Updates, Activision's official service account, posted at 17:54 UTC that the Ranked Play playlists had been briefly brought online for Season 06 and were then taken back offline while the team investigates an issue. Twenty minutes later the same account said it was looking into players hitting the Orlando - Guild error across Black Ops 7 and Warzone.
Confirmed. Both statements come straight from Call of Duty Updates, Activision's official service account, read at their permalinks this run: the Ranked Play post is stamped 17:54 UTC on September 17 and the Orlando - Guild error post 18:14 UTC. What is not published is the cause, a restore time, or whether the three-week sprint gets the day back. As of 00:30 UTC on September 18 no all clear sits above either post.
What Call of Duty actually said
- Ranked Play is down. The official post says the Season 06 Ranked Play playlists were briefly brought online, then taken offline again while an issue is investigated.
- A second error is being tracked. At 18:14 UTC the same account said it is investigating reports of users encountering the Orlando - Guild error. It does not say the two are connected.
- No cause was named. Neither post says what the issue is, what triggered it, or which platforms are affected.
- No restore time was given. There is no estimate for when the playlists come back, and no all clear had been posted above either message as of 00:30 UTC on September 18.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
Ranked Play is the closest thing to a Call of Duty League ruleset you can queue into on your own, and Season 06 is the last one Black Ops 7 gets. Treyarch built it as a three-week sprint with a Ranked Series week behind it. A sprint has no slack in it. Every hour the playlist is dark is an hour of Search and Destroy SR nobody can bank, and it landed on the night most teams had already blocked out for it.
- The sprint is short by design. Three weeks of Ranked plus a Ranked Series week is the whole runway. A day lost at the start is a bigger share of this season than it would be in a normal ten week run.
- Your SR plan just got tighter. Season 06 already made a bottom-half loss more expensive. Fewer available nights means fewer safe games to climb in.
- Do not assume pubs are healthy. The posts name Ranked Play only. They do not say the rest of the playlists are fine, and the Orlando - Guild error is being investigated across both games, so treat tonight as a maybe rather than a guarantee.
- Do not read the leaderboard yet. A ladder that opened, closed, and has not reopened will not give a clean early Top 250 picture. Wait for a full day of uptime before you draw anything from it.
A three week ladder cannot afford a dark night.
What is not confirmed
The outage is official and so is the second error report. Everything a competitor actually wants to plan around is not. Call of Duty has not said what broke, whether it touches the Season 06 content repackaging that shipped the same day, how long the playlists stay down, or whether the three-week Ranked window gets extended to cover the loss. Treat the sprint calendar as unchanged until Call of Duty says otherwise, because nothing published so far changes it.
What to watch
- An all clear on the service account. The account that announced the outage is where the restore gets announced too.
- Any note on the sprint length. If the three-week window moves, that comes from Treyarch or the Call of Duty blog, not from the playlist menu.
- Whether the Orlando - Guild error persists. If it sticks around, it points at a broader service problem rather than a Ranked only bug.
