That is the verification this page was waiting on. It does not settle the mode question: the post sells the campaign and says nothing about multiplayer, so that part stays open.
What Xbox actually published
- The date. September 8, 2026, stated directly in Xbox's own Game Pass post rather than read out of press coverage.
- The tiers. Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. Essential is not listed for Cold War, though it does appear on another title in the same post, so an Essential subscription is not a safe assumption.
- The platforms. Cloud, console, and PC, the same three the earlier reporting described.
- The description. Xbox's blurb covers the single player campaign and the places it visits. Multiplayer is not mentioned anywhere in the entry.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
The league runs legacy Call of Duty alongside the current title, and the hard part of a legacy night is never the game, it is the count. Six players who want a Hardcore Search lobby on a Tuesday need enough population to fill the other side. A subscription drop is the cheapest way that number moves, because nobody has to decide whether a 2020 shooter is worth full price. They just install it. That argument is now anchored to a date Xbox has published, not a date we were taking on trust.
- A dated window. September 8 sits in the dead middle of the gap between the beta closing on September 1 and launch on October 23. You can schedule legacy nights around it now instead of guessing.
- Lobby fill. Every subscriber on three tiers gets the install prompt at once. If concurrents move the way subscription drops usually move them, the week after September 8 is your window to run Search and actually find opponents.
- Read the skill mix honestly. Subscription arrivals are mostly new to the title. That is good for reps and warm bodies, and bad for measuring your team against the lobby.
- Nothing carries over. Cold War movement and gunplay are not MW4's. Treat the reps as conditioning, not as preparation for October 23.
What is not confirmed
Whether the entitlement includes multiplayer. Xbox's entry for Cold War describes the campaign and nothing else, and every argument on this page depends on multiplayer coming with it. Do not read a campaign-only blurb as an exclusion either. Game Pass entries routinely sell a game on its campaign and ship the whole thing, so the honest position is that Xbox has not said, in the one place where saying it would have been binding. Until it does, the date is settled and the population argument is not.
What would verify it
The Game Pass store listing for Cold War once it goes live on September 8, which names the included content plainly, or the game's own mode list on a subscription account. Failing either, the lobbies answer it themselves: if Hardcore Search fills inside a couple of minutes in the week after September 8, multiplayer came with it.
