Call of Duty closed the loop on the August 6 PC problem fast. The official Call of Duty Updates account had flagged that it was investigating reports of stability issues on PC after that day's initial PC-only update for Black Ops 7 and Warzone. About an hour later the same account posted that the issues have been resolved and that a new update is available for players to take. That is two PC-only updates inside a single day, on top of the all-platform patch that landed the evening before.
Official. The resolution and the corrective update both come straight from Call of Duty's own updates channel, so both are confirmed. What is still not public is what caused the instability, what either PC update actually changed, and whether anything beyond stability was touched. Resolved is the studio's word, not a verified read across the PC player base.
What is actually documented
Almost nothing. The Season 05 patch notes page, read again this run, still lists dated sections for July 22, July 29, and August 5 and nothing after. Neither the update that broke PC stability nor the update that fixed it has a published note. The entire public record of both is two short posts on the updates account. That is enough to tell you the client should be stable again. It is not enough to tell you what moved.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
The immediate answer is good news: if you sat out Ranked last night because the client was dropping, the studio says you can go back in. Search and Destroy is where an unstable client hurts most, because one crash is one dead player for the whole round, not thirty seconds of respawn. Getting that risk cleared before the weekend matters, and Black Ops 7 Ranked Play still runs Search and Destroy in its map pool. The lingering problem is the silence. An undocumented client patch is an unknown variable in a scene that tunes around known ones, and the Modern Warfare 4 early access beta opens August 21, which is the worst possible stretch to be guessing about your own build.
- Ladder again, but verify first the crash risk is officially cleared, so Ranked Search reps are back on. Take one private match before you queue anything that costs SR.
- No notes means no diff you cannot check an undocumented update against your settings. If your aim, audio, or frame pacing feels off tonight, you have nothing to compare it to.
- Two PC builds in one day make sure every player in your stack has actually taken the second update. A lobby split across two client builds is how you inherit last night's problem.
- Beta prep window is open with August 21 close, this is the stretch where PC players want a boring, predictable client, not one being hotfixed twice a day.
Resolved is a good word. It is still a word, not a changelog.
What is still not confirmed
Call of Duty has not said what caused the instability, how many PC players it hit, whether specific hardware or storefronts were involved, or whether the corrective update carries anything besides the stability fix. Nothing official addresses Ranked Play or Search and Destroy specifically, and no outlet had picked either post up at the time of writing. Our earlier read on this story stands as written, and this is the follow-up it was waiting on.
What would verify the fix held
The clean confirmation is a dated August 6 or later section on the Season 05 patch notes page covering either PC update. That is the only place the contents would ever be written down. Short of that, the practical test is silence: no third PC-only update and no reopened post from the updates account over the next day or two means the fix took. If PC crash reports keep stacking up with no new official word, the resolved claim is the thing that needs re-testing, and we will say so here.
Green light on Ranked, with one condition. Everyone in the stack takes the second update, you run one private match to confirm the client holds, and then you play. Undocumented patches are not a reason to sit out, they are a reason to check your own settings before the round counts.
