DISPATCH 2026.10 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

The bomb will not always come off the ground

Call of Duty's official live-issues account says Infinity Ward is investigating a Modern Warfare 4 Search and Destroy issue where players may be unable to pick up the bomb from certain positions, and that the team is actively working on a fix. In the one mode where the bomb is the entire round, that is not a cosmetic bug.

Call of Duty's official live-issues account says Infinity Ward is investigating a Modern Warfare 4 Search and Destroy issue where players may be unable to pick up the bomb from certain positions, and that the team is actively working on a fix. The post names no map, no position, and no fix window. It links a card on the official Modern Warfare 4 live-issues board, which would not load for us this run.

Confidence

Confirmed as a statement, not as a scope. The official Call of Duty Updates account states the investigation and the fix work directly, which is as official as a live issue gets before it reaches patch notes. The limits are real: the issue is absent from Activision's Modern Warfare 4 known-issues page and from the October 24 patch notes known-issues list, and the linked live-issues card would not load for us, so treat the affected positions and the fix window as unknown.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

Most launch bugs cost you comfort. This one costs you the round. Search and Destroy has exactly one objective and the bomb is it. An attacking side that cannot pick the bomb up has no plant to threaten, which means no defuse to force, no retake to punish, and no site to apply pressure to. The round stops being Search and becomes a timed elimination race, and a timed elimination race is a defender's round by default.

  • Attack sides pay first If the carrier cannot pick up, the attacking team's whole round plan, from the opening split to the late plant, has nothing left to execute.
  • Hardcore has no second try One life and no respawns mean there is no recovery inside the round. A blocked pick-up is not an inconvenience, it is a round you never got to play.
  • Treat affected rounds as void Until the fix lands, a round lost to a bomb that would not come off the ground is not a read on anyone's play. Do not bank it as evidence in a scrim review.
  • Clip it before you argue it The official post names no position, so your own footage is the only record of where this happens. Capture it and the fix gets specific faster.

What Call of Duty has not said

The official statement is narrow, and the gaps are worth naming. Activision's running Modern Warfare 4 known-issues page, dated October 23, lists four tracked problems: Multiplayer loadouts that will not save, stats missing from the Combat Record and Leaderboards, a missing launch button in COD Home for Xbox on PC, and DMZ operator Prestige. The bomb pick-up issue is on none of them. The October 24 patch notes carry their own known-issues list, naming the temporarily disabled regional map animation, the spectating kick, and a DMZ dog tag network error on PC. The bomb is not there either.

The straightforward reading is that the post is newer than both pages and the lists have not caught up. We cannot prove that, so we are not claiming it. What follows either way: the affected positions are unknown, so there is no specific map or site to avoid, and there is no fix window beyond the team saying it is working on one.

The same patch already tightened the bomb

Hold this next to what shipped two days earlier. The October 24 update closed a different Search and Destroy bomb bug, the one where players could defuse from an unintended distance or position, and it restored the Hardcore minimap while the Portable Radar field upgrade is active. So the mode is getting attention. It also means the bomb has been on both sides of the ledger inside a single launch week: one interaction tightened on purpose, another one reported broken.

A bomb that will not pick up is not a bug you play around. It is a round you do not get to play.
Field note

If you are running Hardcore Search this week, call the bomb early and keep a second body in position to take it. That does not fix the bug, but it stops one blocked pick-up from eating the entire round.
