DISPATCH 2026.09 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

The beta is done. Infinity Ward says the tuning is not.

Infinity Ward closed the Modern Warfare 4 beta on September 1 with a post-beta note in the official patch notes, and it did not read like a victory lap. The studio named five areas it is still working on before the October 23 launch, and the first one is the one that decided every gunfight you played: time to kill.

The Modern Warfare 4 beta closed on September 1 after two weekends, an extension into the last night, and a dated patch note entry almost every day. Infinity Ward signed off with a note in the official patch notes that reads less like a wrap and more like a to-do list. The studio thanked players, then listed what it is still working on between now and the October 23 launch.

Confidence

Confirmed. This comes straight from Infinity Ward's own September 1 entry in the official Modern Warfare 4 beta patch notes, and the October 23 launch date is on the official beta page. What is official here is the list of priorities. None of the five changes has shipped, and the studio put no numbers and no dates on any of them.

What Infinity Ward actually said

  • Time to kill is not settled. The studio says the changes across the beta were an improvement but that it is not fully satisfied, and it will keep dialing in weapons ahead of launch.
  • Perk tiers are being reworked. Infinity Ward says it is adjusting perk tiers to create more meaningful choices. It did not say which perks move or which tiers change.
  • Aim assist gets another pass. The studio repeated that the beta aim assist was not exactly where it wanted to land and said it is already working on updates.
  • Spawns get more work. It calls the Weekend Two spawn changes big but still sees places to improve, especially on certain map and mode combinations.
  • Switch 2 performance improves. Nintendo Switch 2 performance improvements are on the list, which matters in crossplay lobbies where every platform shares one server.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

Hardcore takes the health pool away, so core tuning lands harder in a one-life round than it does anywhere else. Four of the five items on this list are core tuning. That means the scouting report you built across eleven days of beta has an expiration date on it, and the studio just told you roughly where that date sits.

  • Your gun rankings are provisional. More weapon tuning before launch means the beta pecking order is a draft. Retest before you commit a Search loadout on October 23.
  • Perk tiers decide site holds. If a perk moves between tiers it changes what you can run alongside it. That is a direct hit on how you kit a bomb carrier or an anchor.
  • Spawn work changes retakes. Map and mode specific spawn fixes are exactly the ones that decide whether a late round retake is a play or a coin flip.

What is not confirmed

Nothing on this list has shipped. Infinity Ward named the areas and gave no values, no patch, and no date beyond saying more detail comes in the weeks ahead. There is also no public build to test on between now and launch, so nobody outside the studio can check any of it until October 23. And nothing in the note mentions a Hardcore playlist, Search and Destroy round timers, or ranked settings, which remain unaddressed on every official page so far.

A studio telling you the tuning is not finished is useful. It is still not a patch note.

What would verify it

A launch or preseason patch note on callofduty.com carrying real values: damage ranges, perk tier assignments, and an aim assist number. Watch for the Modern Warfare 4 preseason notes in the days before October 23, and treat everything before that as a stated intention rather than a shipped change.

your move

Bring a read, not a memory

The beta gave you eleven days of tape and a warning that the numbers still move. Keep the lobbies running so you are not learning the launch build cold, then prove it when the season opens.
