DISPATCH 2026.09 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

Your hardware ban follows you into MW4.

The official Call of Duty account laid out its pre-launch enforcement position on September 25: the hardware bans from the last enforcement wave carry into Modern Warfare 4, roughly 5,000 accounts are already gone for using devices that modify player input, and Cronus Zen, XIM Matrix and similar tools now carry both account and console bans. Four weeks out from launch, the ban list is being treated as portable.

Four weeks before Modern Warfare 4 ships, Activision spent a post telling you what it will do to the people ruining your lobbies. The short version: the hardware bans already handed out do not expire at launch, the team has started counting bans tied to input-modifying devices, and getting caught with one of those devices can cost you the console, not just the account.

Confidence

Confirmed. Every number and every policy line here comes from the official Call of Duty account's September 25 statement, read in full this run. One thing worth keeping straight: the 70,000 hardware bans are the same figure the official RICOCHET post published on September 18. What is new today is that those bans carry into Modern Warfare 4, the roughly 5,000 device-related account bans, and the console-ban consequence.

What the statement actually says

  • Bans travel the more than 70,000 hardware bans from the recent enforcement wave carry into the launch of Modern Warfare 4. A banned machine does not get a clean slate on October 23.
  • A device number, finally roughly 5,000 accounts have already been banned specifically for using devices that modify player input to gain an unfair advantage.
  • Named tools Cronus Zen and XIM Matrix are called out by name, along with similar tools. Using them to cheat is not allowed.
  • Account and console players who use these devices to cheat are subject to account bans and console bans.
  • The accessibility argument does not work Activision says some of these products are sold as accessibility tools, and that it judges them by what they do in a match rather than by how they are marketed.
  • Up the chain enforcement goes past the player. Activision says it tracked Cronus' North American distributor to a hotel in Southeast Asia last year and served a cease-and-desist.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

Hardcore Search and Destroy is the mode where assistance pays the highest dividend and is the hardest to prove. One life, low health, long angles held for twenty seconds at a time. A recoil script that turns a wall-bang spray into a clean two-tap does not look like an aimbot on the killcam, it looks like somebody who is just better than you. That is exactly the gap these devices live in, and it is why a public ban count for them matters more to an SnD player than another wallhack headline.

  • Scrims get cleaner, slowly if a hardware ban survives the title change, the population of repeat offenders in your MW4 pubs starts lower on day one than it did on Black Ops 7 day one.
  • Your GA arguments just got a floor the league conversation about third-party input hardware has been a gentlemen's agreement problem. A publisher naming Cronus Zen and XIM Matrix gives any organizer a written line to point at.
  • Console bans change the math an account ban costs a cheater a login. A console ban costs hardware. That is a real deterrent in a console-heavy competitive scene.
  • Report with detail if you suspect input assistance, note the weapon, the range, and the recoil behavior rather than just calling it aim assist. Behavioral detection is what catches this class, and it runs on patterns over time.
A ban that follows the hardware is worth more than a ban that follows the account.

What the statement does not cover

No per-title breakdown, so there is no way to tell how many of those 5,000 device bans came out of Black Ops 7 Ranked Play versus Warzone versus the MW4 beta. No Search and Destroy or Ranked-specific figure at all. No detection detail, which is fair enough given who reads these posts, but it means there is no way to judge the false-positive risk for a player who runs a legitimate adaptive controller. And no date on the next enforcement report.

Prep note

If you play on a PC that has ever run a spoofer or a borrowed cheat, understand what carry-over means before you pre-order. The same applies to a shared console. Nothing in this statement suggests a launch amnesty.
