At 18:35 UTC on October 31, Call of Duty Updates posted that an issue with the Modern Warfare 4 KG-9 Drill Charge Apex Attachment, named in the post as the KG-7 Vulcan, was under investigation. The post added the part that matters: a fix was being worked on, but players should avoid equipping the attachment in the meantime. Infinity Ward replied one minute later that it was testing a fix and would share an update later that day. At 20:57 UTC, two hours and twenty two minutes after the first post, Call of Duty Updates said the issue had been resolved.
Confirmed. Every element of this comes from official Call of Duty channels: the advisory and the resolution from Call of Duty Updates, the fix-testing note from Infinity Ward. What is official is the instruction and the timeline, nothing more. The posts never describe the underlying issue, so the behavior itself stays unknown.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
A live-issue post that names one attachment and tells you not to equip it is a loadout instruction, and in Search and Destroy loadout instructions are round instructions. There is no respawn to absorb a weapon that is behaving in a way the studio is still investigating, and there is no way to know mid-series whether the thing it is doing favors you or the team holding the bomb.
- Do-not-equip is an enforcement line, not advice. Modern Warfare 4 already has a public policy on abusing known issues. Once the developer has posted the warning, keeping that attachment on a class stops being an accident.
- Apex Attachments sit at the end of the grind. They are the final weapon unlocks, so a class built on one is a class a player worked for. Any team drilling a KG-9 setup needed a fallback class on hand for those two hours.
- The calendar makes this week expensive. Season 1 goes live November 6 and the Launch Invitational runs November 6 through 8. Practice time spent on a loadout that is under investigation is practice time spent twice.
- The response loop is the real takeaway. Advisory to resolved inside one evening means Call of Duty Updates is the feed that governs your loadouts right now, ahead of the patch notes page. Check it before a scrim block, not after it.
What the posts do not say
Not one of the three posts describes the issue. There is no statement of what the attachment was doing, whether it showed up in Multiplayer, DMZ or both, whether the fix went out server-side or needed a client update, and nothing at all about whether players who used it during those hours face any action. The posts point at a Trello card for details, and the Modern Warfare 4 launch patch notes page still carried no KG-9 or Drill Charge line when we read it on November 1. So the official record of this one is three short posts and a resolution, which is enough to act on and not enough to explain.
A do-not-equip is a rule for the night. A patch note is a receipt you read later.
The resolution post says the issue is closed, not that your class list is clean. Load a Private Match before your next block, equip the KG-9 with the Drill Charge Apex, and look at it for one magazine. Two minutes of that is worth more than waiting for a patch note that may never name this.
