DISPATCH 2026.10 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

Prestige from the wrong menu and your classes stop coming back

Call of Duty's official live-issues account says Modern Warfare 4 players who enter Classic Prestige through the DMZ menus instead of the multiplayer menus can end up unable to create new multiplayer classes. Infinity Ward is investigating and has posted a workaround. Until it ships a fix, where you click the Prestige button matters.

Modern Warfare 4 is three days old and the Prestige button already has a trap in it. Call of Duty's official live-issues account says it is investigating reports that players who enter Classic Prestige through the DMZ menus, rather than the multiplayer menus, come out the other side unable to create new multiplayer classes. Same Prestige, same account, different door, broken loadout screen.

Confidence

Confirmed. The notice comes straight from Call of Duty's own live-issues account, which is where Infinity Ward posts known issues, and the Prestige mechanics around it are in the official launch patch notes. Two honest limits: the account names no platforms, no cause and no fix window, and the public preview we could read cuts off partway through the workaround instruction, so read the full post before you start deleting loadouts.

What Call of Duty says

  • The trigger. Entering Classic Prestige from the DMZ menus instead of the multiplayer menus. Prestiging from the multiplayer side is not named in the notice.
  • The symptom. Affected players cannot create new multiplayer classes. Classic Prestige is the path that resets Create-a-Class progress, so the reset lands and the rebuild does not.
  • The status. Investigating. No platform list, no cause and no fix window are stated.
  • The workaround. The post tells players in that state to review their existing multiplayer loadouts and delete the ones at fault. The public preview we could read cuts off mid-instruction, so go to the official post for the full text.

Why hardcore SnD cares

Search and Destroy is the mode where the kit is the plan. One life, one loadout, and the perk you picked three menus ago decides whether you can run Overkill into a post plant, go quiet with Ninja, or stay off a UAV with Ghost. A player locked out of Create-a-Class is not mildly inconvenienced. They are playing the most punishing mode in the game on whatever the game hands them.

  • Default loadouts are not a Search kit. The official launch notes put Create-a-Class at Level 4 with Default Loadouts before that. Prestige drops you back into a window the game designed for your first hour, not your hundredth.
  • It hits your best players first. The people who reach Level 55 and take Classic Prestige for the extra XP are the ones grinding hardest. They are also the ones who have been living in DMZ menus between matches.
  • Scrims do not wait. A crew that loses one player's loadouts the night before a match loses the role that player was built around, and there is no quick swap in a one-life mode.
  • The fix is free if you know. Prestige from the multiplayer menus. That is the whole precaution, and it costs nothing to take.
Prestige from the multiplayer menus until this is patched. That is the whole precaution and it costs nothing.

What is not stated

The notice is thin on purpose, the way live-issue posts usually are. It does not say which platforms are affected, whether the problem is the DMZ menu itself or a loadout left behind by it, how many players are hitting it, or when a fix lands. It also does not say whether the loadout cleanup fully restores Create-a-Class or only clears the blockage until the patch arrives. None of that is in the October 24 patch notes either, which shipped a stack of loadout and Gunsmith fixes without this one, so the issue is newer than that update.

Practical read

If you are near Level 55, take the Prestige from the multiplayer menus and nowhere else. If you have already prestiged from DMZ and your class screen is dead, read the official post in full before you delete anything, because the instruction we could read is cut off partway through and a half followed cleanup is worse than none.
