DISPATCH 2026.08 / INTEL CONFIDENCE: CONFIRMED

The aim assist cut landed with no numbers attached

We said on August 27 that the aim assist answer was coming in writing the next morning. It came. The August 28 beta patch notes say aim assist was adjusted to reduce its impact, that the tuning is not what the studio wants yet, and that the change is global and reaches Warzone too. That is the whole entry.

Our August 27 page said the aim assist answer was in writing for the next morning and that we could not tell you what it was yet. It posted. Aim assist is one of the five areas Infinity Ward names at the top of the August 28 notes, alongside time to kill, spawns, movement and killstreaks. Then the aim assist section itself runs three sentences and no numbers.

Confidence

Confirmed. Infinity Ward states the change directly in its own August 28 beta patch notes on callofduty.com, read in full this run. This updates our August 27 page, which said the notes were promised but not yet posted. What is confirmed is that a reduction shipped. The size of it is not published anywhere.

What the notes actually say

  • Direction Adjustments were made for Weekend Two to reduce the impact of aim assist. Reduce, not remove.
  • Provisional by admission The studio says plainly that this is not the exact tuning it wants and that it will be dialing it in ahead of launch.
  • Global reach The adjustments are global and apply to Warzone as well, so this is not a multiplayer only tweak.

Why Hardcore SnD cares

In a one life mode the first duel of a round is usually the round. Aim assist strength is the single biggest input on how that duel resolves across controller and mouse, and it is the setting that decides whether a mixed input lobby is a fair fight or a formality. A reduction shipped without a value means nobody can calculate the new balance. You can only go play and find out, and you have until 10 AM PT on September 1 to do it.

  • Recalibrate, do not assume Rotational aim assist habits built in Weekend One are now approximate. Close quarter tracking is where a reduction shows up first, which in Search and Destroy means site entries and hallway trades.
  • Mixed input lobbies If you scrim across controller and mouse, this weekend is your only free window to re-read that gap before it moves again.
  • It is going to change again The studio committed to more tuning before launch, so do not rebuild a whole sensitivity plan around Weekend Two values.

What is not confirmed

How much aim assist was reduced. Which aim assist type was touched, rotational or slowdown or both. Whether the change is uniform across inputs and platforms. Whether any of it survives to October 23. None of that is in the notes, and no official page we read this run puts a number on it. Anyone quoting a percentage right now is guessing.

A transparency line is worth something. It is still not a number.

The studio did not publish one, so the community has to build it. Run entries, log what feels different, and bring it to the Discord before the beta closes on September 1.
