Infinity Ward posted Day 4 patch notes for the Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta on Monday, August 31. It is the last full day of the beta, which closes Tuesday, September 1 at 10:00 AM PT. Double XP and Double Weapon XP stay on, Transit 213 24/7 stays in rotation, and 6v6 Gunfight on Kill Block runs to the end. The real change is a weapon tuning pass that touches every class.
Official. Every number here comes from Infinity Ward's own Modern Warfare 4 beta patch notes for Monday, August 31, and the beta window comes from the official beta page. The studio's time to kill statement is a read on the current beta build, not a promise about what ships on October 23.
What Infinity Ward actually changed
The studio framed the pass in its own notes: after reviewing the weekend's play and feedback, it believes average time to kill is much closer to where it wanted it after Weekend One, and these changes are about making each class do well at its role. That is a direction statement, and it is the clearest one Infinity Ward has given since the beta opened.
- LMGs come down FiNN LMG max damage drops from 33 to 30 and its mid damage range shrinks from 47m to 43.7m. The Type 73 takes more: max damage 28 to 22, max range 26m to 24.9m, with neck and upper torso multipliers raised from 1 to 1.1.
- SMGs go up The PPSh-41's max damage range extends from 10.4m to 10.8m. The ISO Nightshade gains max damage 20 to 21, a longer max range, and a head multiplier raised from 1.25 to 1.3.
- Marksman rifles get mixed The Oris 8.6 loses max damage range, 20.8m down to 19m. The Han 86 gains a point at both ends, 22 to 23 and 18 to 19. The Hyeon Burst picks up a neck multiplier of 1.1.
- The M4 Hurricane Apex loses teeth The M4's Apex attachment drops max damage from 30 to 27 and its head multiplier from 1.3 to 1.25. Apex attachments are the endgame kit, so this is a nerf aimed squarely at a fully leveled loadout.
- Rezi 12 barrels lose range The long barrel's damage range benefit falls from 25 percent to 19 percent, and the heavy long barrel's from 15 percent to 13 percent.
- The Krait P68 gains a little The pistol's second mid damage tier rises from 33 to 34 and stretches out to 39.1m, a small buff to a secondary that already matters on a bomb plant.
Why Hardcore SnD cares
Hardcore lowers health, so a lot of core damage tuning stops mattering the moment most primaries kill in one or two hits. What does not stop mattering is range. Damage range bands decide where a gun falls off, and this pass moved bands on four of the weapons most likely to be holding a long angle into a bomb site.
- Long angles got shorter The FiNN LMG's mid damage band ends 3.3m earlier and the Type 73's max band ends about a meter earlier. Both are guns you meet holding a site from range.
- The Oris 8.6 has to step up Losing 1.8m of max damage range on a marksman rifle changes which side of a lane you can win from. Re-walk your favorite hold before you trust it.
- SMG lanes widened The ISO Nightshade and the PPSh-41 both hold their top damage further out. In a one life mode that is the gap between trading a first duel and winning it.
- Apex is not free anymore The M4 Hurricane taking both a damage cut and a head multiplier cut means the fully leveled M4 is no longer the automatic answer it was on Saturday.
What this does not settle
This is a beta build with hours left on the clock. Infinity Ward's line is that time to kill is closer to target, not that it is final, and nothing in these notes commits the studio to shipping these numbers on October 23. The published beta playlists also never included a Hardcore option, so none of this was tested at Hardcore health by the public. Treat the numbers as the studio's current direction, not the launch spec.
The numbers are the studio's current direction. They are not the October spec.
The Open Beta closes Tuesday, September 1 at 10:00 AM PT, and gameplay progression resets when it does. Whatever you have not tested against these numbers today, you do not get to test at all before launch.
